Bob Athanasiou - Photographer of Year 2004-5
Unenhanced Division

Bob Athanasiou has been taking pictures for more than half a century. He started with a Kodak Brownie box camera and worked his way up to Nikon SLRs. He spent many years working in black and white and then in color slides and finally in color print format. In the 60’s he spent time working in a darkroom in his basement, creating some good black and white shots. Now, he uses strictly digital format and uses a Nikon D70 SLR and a Canon S45 pocket camera. He is a semi-retired physician and even took some photo courses on medical illustration in medical school.

Bob was an active member of a photography club while in college. Learning composition techniques and judging methods has made it easier for him to create some great shots. Many of his photos hang on the walls in his home. In fact one criterion for a ‘good shot’ is whether or not it is a ‘wall shot’.

Bob is a member of the Photographic Society of America and participates in the Electronic Imaging Division. His favorite subjects are found in nature though, like his talented wife, he will shoot just about anything in season and enjoys trying new techniques and unusual settings.

Barb says he is the competitive one and got her a complicated camera only so he would have an advantage for a little while.
