Minutes 4 /16/2008
The meeting was called to order at 1pm by Bob A. The account balance is $1483.89. There was a discussion concerning whether our end of year luncheon should be on May 7, the last meeting date of the year, or May 21 when there would be no meeting. We ended the discussion with a vote and we agreed that we would have the meeting on May 7 and go to lunch following the meeting. The luncheon will be at Little Bits Café at 3:30pm. The restaurant is closed at that time so it will be a private party. The club will contribute $10 to the cost of the luncheon for members. Cost to members will be $5 and cost for guests will be $15. Money is due at the May 7 meeting. About 25 people will be attending The first club meeting of the 2008-2009 season will be September 3, 2008. The contest topic is “Fill the Frame.” The Program topic is a Travelogue of Greece presented by Frank Kraft. Paul distributed some wallet sized cards with the next season’s contest topics. Paul and Margaret then discussed some of the contest topics for next season. The committee chose topics that would enable the members to be creative in their photography. Members were encouraged to think outside the box with topics like Fill the Frame, Show & Tell, From the ground up and Vintage. Paul and Margaret made some suggestions as to what these titles might mean to get the members thinking. Show and Tell will be a Photographer’s choice with the photographer presenting their picture and explaining something about how they took it or what the picture represents, etc., Vintage should be a picture of something old. From the ground up might be a picture taken while lying down and looking up at a subject. There was a discussion on why we have a 2 year limit on contest photos and whether we should enlarge that limit... A vote was taken and we will go to a limit of 5 years. Bill Tharp needs pictures for Little Bits for the summer. Members were asked to bring contest winning photos that they are willing to let Bill have for the summer to the May 7 meeting. (Note that there were so many winners in today’s contest that Bill probably has enough pictures for the summer if members are willing to let him keep these photos for that time frame.) There was a discussion on allowing winners of the pictorial category be included in the Photographer of the year contest. The final decision was that we will award a Photographer of the Year award for both the contest and the pictorial categories. Arne provided printouts of next year’s programs, tech talks and photo contests. Arne is looking for members to volunteer to present the 10 minute tech talks. If you are interested in helping, contact Arne or send him and email atarne@thesien.org. There were 3 new members. The 50/50 raffle was only $7 so we had one winner. Bob A presented a tech talk on Depth of Field. Arne presented a program on the Picasa software. The Top Honors in the Close-up Contest went to: 12 Points 11 Points Bob Athanasiou Dawn at Oxbow Bend
