Simple Adjustments in Photoshop Elements by Betty Eich 12_2_09 (this is a pdf file)
 
Unsharp Mask- Use Unsharp mask to sharpen your pictures. If you are using glossy paper the settings should be: Amount-125% Radius-1 Threshold- 0 If you are using mat paper the settings are: Amount -20% Radius- 50 Threshold-0.
Watercolor effect-Go to FILTER>ARTISTIC>WATERCOLOR use sliders to achieve the look you want and hit OK.
Poster Edges-Go to FILTER>ARTISTIC>POSTER EDGES and move sliders until you get what you want. Hit OK.
Blurred background-Open image in LAYERS and make a duplicate layer LAYER>DUPLICATE LAYER. With top layer active, FDLTER>BLUR>RADIAL BLUR. Pick spin or zoom. Move sliders to get result you like and click OK. Make a mask layer and with that active and black as foreground color, pick a soft edged brush and paint on areas you want clear. If you make a mistake switch white to foreground color and repaint. If using Elements use the eraser tool and set Opacity to 70-80%.
Color Burn- Click on brush tool. Set to Color Bum and opacity between 5% and 25%. Your foreground color should be set to 50% grey.
Channel Mixer-Go to IMAGE>ADJUSTMENTS>CHANNEL MIXER. Click box in lower left (Monochrome). Adjust sliders to get image you want, Click OK. Go to IMAGE>MODE>GRAYSCALE. Adjust LEVELS.
Sepia- Go to IMAGE>ADJUST>DESATURATE. To achieve a sepia tpe toning, go to IMAGE>ADJUST>COLOR BALANCE. Add magenta and yellow to get a sepia tone you like.
